Prepatellar bursa injuries

The prepatellar bursa is one of the few knee injuries that is generally considered to not be serious. Although the bursa (at the front of the knee) can swell dramatically, it often does not limit running.

Football players get bothered by a swollen bursa when they repetitively land on it.

The major concern with the prepatellar bursa is its propensity to become infected. This happened to Andrew Gaze of the Melbourne Tigers during the 2002 NBL season.
