Midfoot sprains

There is a joint in the middle section of the foot called the 1st tarso-metatarsal joint that can severely sprain in football players. Sometimes this type of sprain is called a LisFranc injury.

Although uncommon, these sprains can sometimes cause players to miss almost a full season of football. Matthew Richardson of the Richmond Tigers, and Mark Gasnier of the St. George-Illawarra Dragons have both suffered these injuries in recent seasons.
