Akhtar/Flintoff look to home for recovery
The decision to send Shoaib Akhtar (Pakistan) home to recover from a grade one hamstring injury stunned many in cricketing circles this week. The tear away quick has broken down in Australia twice now and the Pakistan management have decided the risk of further injury was not worth it. Pakistan has a series against archrivals India in February, and would be desperate to have Akhtar 100% fit.
Andrew Flintoff (England), who has been playing with cortisone injections for the series against South Africa, will return to England after the fifth Test to have surgery on his left ankle. Read more at Cricinfo. Suffering from posterior impingement for well over 12 months, the time has come to remove a bony spur, which would see him out of the game for around 3 months. With the Ashes starting in July it will be an intensive rehab required to get Flintoff back into the devastating form he is displaying for England at the moment.
